Cork, Cobh & Cross Country

Cross Country season kicked off in Riverstick today, Sunday 1st October, with the Cork Athletics Novice Under 23 and Juvenile even-age Cross Country Championships. This weeks rain caused the underfoot conditions to be somewhat slippery. Togher AC held their own however, with some fine performances. There were juveniles and seniors who ran their first cross country races, so well done to them for surviving this very muddy introduction.

An outstanding performance by Evan Byrne who won the novice men’s race and the U23 men’s race. Evan was leader in our senior men’s team who snatched 2nd place. Congratulations to Evan, to Ian Tivy (5th), Dave Barrett (11th) and Jeff Casey (17th) for this super achievement. Well done also to Craig Harrington, Mike Colohan and Barry Sheehan for very strong performances in the novice men’s race.

The novice women’s team had an great 4th place finish, with impressive performances by Eimear O’Brien (13th), Rachel O’Callaghan (19th), Marjorie Lynch (24th), Marianne O’Connell (30th) and Shirley Twomey (34th).

The under 18 girls were 3rd team in their race. Congratulations to Megan O’Regan, Katie Olden, Fiona Byrne and Savni Kajlar for giving it their all.

Sean O’Connell was our sole representative in the U16 boys race and he had a fine 8th place finish. Well done Sean. The under 16 girls team were 1st and congratulations to Robin Farraher, Katie McSweeney, Aoibheann McSweeney and Jennifer Daly for their efforts in the race.

Congratulations to Cian Twomey our U14 year old representative; U12 boys, Tadhg Howe, Cael Cogan, Lorcan de Burca, Jack Hegarty and Peter Mullane; U12 girls Anna Fitzgerald and Edel O’Sullivan; U10 boys Darren O’Connell and Shane O’Shaughnessy and Kate McCarthy (U10 girls) who did us proud out there today.
