Personal Records:

4 mile – 28:48

10 mile – 1:16

Half Marathon – 1:41

25k – 2:02

Coaches: Frank Doherty and Aidan Hartnett

How long are you running?
I started running to get fit about 7 years ago (written 2018), a friend Kevin took the time out to get me started. I joined Togher AC about 2 years ago and I can’t believe the achievements I have gained with the help of Frank and Aidan and of course my running partner Helen who helps me through every race! As the Twomey family were involved with Togher AC down through the years, Pat (my husband’s) mother being Club President one stage, there really was no other club I would have chosen.

What event’s do you do?
I try anything, just not full marathons!

Castlelyons 4 Mile County Road Race, 2016 where Shirley was part of the silver & bronze winning teams for Novice & Masters

Proudest moment:
Has to be being part of the ladies team in the County Road Championships in 2016, winning silver in the Novice and bronze in the Masters and again in 2017, 3rd in the Novice team. Enjoying the moment as a team made it even better!

At the Great Railway 25k Run, April 2017 with Eimear O’Brien & Helen Walsh

What is your main goal for this year?
My main goal was to do 25k which I did in April 2017, it was a great feeling to have done it and a great day out with the club.

Most memorable moment:
When running with my family in the Darkness into Light. This was a very special and emotional run with my husband Pat, son Cian and my niece Aoife, which was her first 5k. Hopefully my younger son Cathal will join us next year.

What do you like most about Togher AC?
Everyone is made so welcome. The support, the friendships and plenty of laugh’s along the way. Having a club and sport where all my family can enjoy is a huge plus. I also love being a Little Athletic’s coach and my kids love being in it. The time and effort the coaches put into the kids is amazing.

In 5 years time, athletics wise, where do you see yourself?
Hopefully still running, I would love to do some races abroad at some stage.

Charleville HM, 2017 with Rob & Marian Heffernan

Who’s your favourite Sports Hero?
I was never a huge sports fan but I always loved watching Sonia O’Sullivan and more recently Rob Heffernan. I love seeing athletes from home do so well.

Favourite drink/film/food?
I am known to enjoy the odd glass of red! 😉 I love watching Dirty Dancing with my Mom and creme eggs (or any chocolate!) is my downfall.
