Great weekend all round with Togher athletes young and not so young, seasoned and new runners out on track, road, trail and park runs.
Our Little Athletes did us proud in Nenagh at the Munster Indoor Juvenile Championships (U9-12) on Saturday 4th February. Congratulations to Saidhbh, Dilly, Joshua, Cathal and James and well done to parents and coaches for making it all happen. Results will be up soon on the Munster Athletics website HERE
Louise Murphy, Padraig O’Herlihy and Bernard Coleman ran the Park Run in Ballincollig yesterday, Saturday 4th February, with Padraig and Bernard running personal bests. Having started in our 0-5k group in October last, these guys are doing superb running times. Well done to coach Louise for keeping them on track 🙂
Brian Russell, Helen Walsh, Louise Murphy and Claire Dunne ran the Irish Mountain Runners Association (IMRA) trail run in Clonakilty this morning. What a tough but beautiful run, it took in everything, forest, hill, road and beach! See HERE for further details about IMRA.
At lunchtime on Sunday 5th February, 16 of our members took to the streets of Dungarvan for the John Treacy 10 mile road race. Tony Kelleher came in second place in the 045 category, showing super form and starting off the season in style. Our mens team were 8th in the Open Team category, which is a fantastic result in this very competitive race. Well done Dave O’Keeffe, Eric Browne and Brian O’Callaghan who made up this team. Dave and Brian had massive personal bests, so watch out for them in the year ahead. While the Togher AC John Treacy team (Dave, Tony and Eric) technically came in 4th place, unfortunately the rules mean that Tony, receiving an individual prize, cannot be counted. In any case, we are very proud of such fine performances.
Congratulations to Andrew and Brian Maher (with a new personal best), Aidan Hartnett ( with a new personal best), Patrick O’Regan, Patrick O’Mahony, Rory McCarthy, Frank Linehan, Rachel O’Callaghan, Mary Noonan and Maeve O’Shaughnessy who all had great runs in Dungarvan and did us proud wearing the Togher AC singlets. Congratulations to coaches Frank and Doc Doherty for their support in preparation for the event.
Well done also to our Fit4Life very new members Yvonne Gough, Mary O’Halloran and Margaret Murphy who ran the 10 miles in great times. Looks like it was a great day out.
Finally, in the National Athletics Association of Ireland Indoor Games on Sunday 5th in Dublin, Evan Byrne ran an superb personal best 3000m in 8.38 and Chris O Reilly in 9.08. This is an incredible achievement and so admirable given the hard work it takes to get to this level. We are so proud of our young athletes and congratulations to coach Steve Macklin. See HERE.
Well done all, time to put your feet up on this beautiful evening. 🙂
