Leevale A.C. continued an exciting weekend of athletics with their hosting of the Leevale Juvenile Open Sports. This was a massive event that attracted an estimated 750 juvenile athletes. Olympian Robert Heffernan led a racewalking event with the juvenile athletes and later posted “Such a great weekend . Its not often you would get 500 kids trying to racewalk on the track. Thank you to Leevale athletic club for putting on the event .”
Young Togher athletes were a force to be reckoned with on the day, pulling out some fine performances in the middle distance events. Timmy Murphy was 5th in the u12 600m. Adam O Reilly won the u13 600m in a time of 1.46.75, with Chris Murphy 5th in the same race. Andrew Turner was 4th in the u15 800m, while Ruairí Casey came 2nd in the u16 800m in a time of 2.11.32. Sean Barber was pipped the to a podium position in the u16 800m, finishing 4th, as was Evan Byrne in the u17 1500m, who also finished 4th. Meanwhile, Leevales Cathal Heffernan, son of Rob and Marian, showed great potential by coming 2nd in the u9 60m dash.
