A Weekend of Firsts

A diversity of events and of club members participating in them meant that this weekend was a busy one for the club.

Munster Junior Championships

16 year old Kevin Jelenak won gold at the Munster Junior Championships (U20) with a massive throw of 51.87 meters. Kevin is staying true to form, excelling at each competition he has participated in this year. The club are so proud of Kevin and his coach Denise Murphy.

Leevale Juvenile Track and Field Meet

Leevale Juvenile Track and Field Meet in CIT, always proving to be a great day out, with today, Sunday 23rd April, being no exception. Well done to all of our Little Athletics members who participated. We could look on with pride as our young athletes represented the club so well, not only in performance but also in behaviour and sportsmanship. Thank you to all of the coaches and parents who dedicate their time to achieving such ends.

While all performances today were wonderful, special mention goes to a number of our young athletes for their achievements.

Rory Moloney tried his hand at the high jump today, for the very first time. Rory proved to be a natural and snatched first place at a height of 1.25m. Hopefully this is the first of many golds for Rory. Jorja Lannon (U9) finished 3rd in the Turbo Javelin, an absolutely superb result from Jorja, we are very proud of you.

Connemarathon

Patrick O’Regan and Darren Hough have been putting themselves through a  gruelling training routine over the past six months. It was all with one goal in mind, the Commemarathon Ultra Marathon, which goes through 39.3 miles of the beautiful west of Ireland. This is Patrick’s second year completing this arduous challenge, bringing his training partner Darren with him this time around. It was Darren’s first Ultra Marathon. They went, they saw and conquer it, they did. What a fantastic achievement. Another member who took to the roads up west was Philip Murphy who completed the Half Marathon today, one of the more challenging half marathons given the hilly terrain. Hearty respect and congratulations to you on your achievements from all in Togher AC. See http://www.connemarathon.com/ for more details.

The Great Railway Run

The 5k, 10k and 25k races that are all part of the Great Railway Run took place today, with the 25k race starting on Centre Park Road and finishing in Carrigaline. It was success all round with very strong performances. The crowning glory was Eimear O’Brien who was the first female to cross the line in the 10k race (42:32). We are so proud of you Eimear 🙂 Congratulations!
