This month’s interview and extended profile is with senior runner John Durcan.

When/how/why did you take up running?

In Douglas com, in 1st year to socialise.

When and why did you join Togher AC?

In school, because Steve Macklin gave me the singlet and the entry form.

What is/are your preferred distance/s?

Probably 3k but anything 1500m to 10k.

What is/are your PB/s?

1500 – 4:01, 3k – 8:37, 5k – 15:08 (all this summer 🙂 ) and half marathon – 1:13.

What is your proudest running moment?

Probably winning the 3k in Belfast in May on track.

Who is your coach?

Michael Power.

What is your main running goal for the next 12 months?

Break 15min 5k.

What is your most memorable race/running moment and why?

Belfast 3k again. Particularly because it was on YouTube and friends / family were watching.

What do you like most about Togher AC?

Every time I come back to Cork I have a gang to run and catch up with.

What would you say to someone thinking of taking up running?

Go for it. Easiest sport in the world to dip in and out of. Clears the head after work more than anything else also.

Who is your favourite sporting hero?

Tough one – probably Ronan O Gara.

What is your favourite food?

BBQ (Tom Durcan meats!) or Wagamama.

What is your favourite drink?

Beamish! 

What is your favourite film?

Inglorious Bastards.
