Munster Schools Track & Field

At the Munster Schools Track and Field on Saturday 20th May, Kevin Jelenak claimed a gold medal with a throw of 51.44 meters in the Javelin. Kevin is proving to be a champion in all competitions.

Aisling O’Shaughnessy won a bronze medal and had a super PB of 6:41 in the 1200m race walk. Also Chris O’Reilly had a fantastic 3rd place in the U16 mile. Congratulations to each of you and to your coaches Denise Murphy, Frank Doherty and Steve Macklin.

Rosscarbery Surf, Turf n’Tar

On Saturday 20th May, a number of Togher AC athletes took part in the Rosscarbery Surf Turf ‘n’ Tar Half Marathon and 10k races. The routes were along a combination of beach, road, forest and trails. Participants were treated to stunningly beautiful scenery along the way, which made the particularly tough routes more palatable!

Congratulations to Brian Maher, Marjorie O’Connell, Rachel O’Callaghan, Helen Walsh, Yvonne Walsh, Mary Beth Ryan, Patrick O’Regan and Rory McCarthy who all completed the Half Marathon on the day.

There were some very strong runs, especially Brian Maher (1:48:02) who was 2nd in the O45 mens category; Marjorie O’Connell who was 4th female over all (1:49:42); Rachel O’Callaghan (1:50:18) who was 1st and Helen Walsh (1:51:41) who was 2nd in the female O40 category for the Half Marathon.

Well done to Louise Murphy, Claire Dunne, Aine Flynn, Deirdre O’Brien, Liz Doyle & Norma Kelleher who all completed the 10km race there. Louise Murphy ran a superb race and was 5th female overall in the 10k (49:08), while Claire Dunne (56:13) was 2nd female in the O40 category for the 10k.

Great results for everyone given the type of terrain and that there were very heavy downpours throughout the first hour. Thank you to the Rosscarbery Surf, Turf n’Tar team and the Celtic Ross Hotel for the efforts they went to in organising the race – every detail was covered and very much appreciated by all who took part from our club. Well done to Togher’s athletes and to coach Frank Doherty.

County Masters Track & Field

There were fantastic results from the County Masters track & field championships in CIT on Sunday 21st May, when Ian Tivy came first and is now County Champion in the Senior Men’s 1500m. In the same race, club mate Tony Kelleher came in 2nd place. Incredible performances by two incredible athletes. Congratulations and well done to you both.

European Athletics Race Walking Cup

Robert Heffernan raced a superb 20km in the European Race Walking Cup in Podebrady, Czech Republic on Sunday 21st May. Rob was part of the Irish Team in this event who took Bronze. The team was Alex Wright who was 6th, Rob Heffernan who came in 13th place and Cian McManamon who was 26th (PB). A fantastic result from these inspiring athletes. Hearty congratulations from all in Togher AC to Robert and his team.
