Tri & You Will Succeed!
On the weekend of 27/28th May, a number of Togher athletes took part in relays and triathlons, events that are new to them. Others participated in their preferred events and despite adverse weather conditions for some, and international competition for others, they came through the other side relatively unscathed or with personal bests (PB).
IFAM International Meet in Oordegem Belgium
On Saturday 27th May, we had two incredible performances from Liam Harris and Evan Byrne at the IFAM International meet in Oordegem Belgium. Liam ran a 5000m PB of 14.20.66 and Evan had 26 second PB of 14.52.66. We are so proud of Liam, Evan and coach Steve Macklin who continue to represent our club at the highest levels.
Burren Mountain Challenge & Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon
Five Fit4Life members completed a half marathon across the hills near Ballyvaughan in Co. Clare on Saturday 27th May. Despite a very wet start, the conditions did not deter the enjoyment of the event for the group.
The weather cooperated beautifully from an hour in, so participants were afforded stunning sea views as they navigated the rocky landscape. One of the party may have been admiring the view a little too much, resulting in a trip to the first aid tent at the finish line to patch up a bloodied knee. The torn leggings will live to face another trail challenge however!
For a first triathlon, Lough Cutra Castle offers the perfect backdrop and distance. Michelle Nelson has been training for this triathlon for the past months. Overcoming the challenge of fixing a melted tyre upon arrival at the Castle made the event itself seem less daunting. Michelle it seems has caught the Tri bug and will be seen swimming soon in a river near you 🙂

County Juvenile Relay Championships
The Cork County Juvenile Relay Championships took place on Sunday 28th May in CIT. This was the first time that Little Athletics teams from Togher AC were entered into the event, so it was a momentous occasion. Credit is due to all coaches, especially Marianne Haslette, who prepared the athletes for the day.
The Juvenile girls under 18 and under 19 were prepared for the event by Mr. John Hayes. There were great results for their teams who medalled on the day. The U18 team, Fiona Byrne, Megan O’Regan, Katie Oldham and Mei O’Donoghue were 3rd in the 4X100m race. The U19 team, Maeve McTaggart, Sally Naughton, Megan O’Regan and Katie Oldham were 2nd in the 4X100m race and 3rd in the 4X400m race. Some very strong performances by our girls despite a few injuries on the day.
The U10 girls team; Jorja Lannon, Dilly Barry Twohig, Meadhbh O’Connell and Kate McCarthy, did very well in their heat, as did the U10 boys; Alex Moloney, Darren O’Connell, Shane O’Shaughnessy and Ali O’Leary.
The U11 boys team were Conor Geehan, James Traynor, Trevor Howe and Conor Kelliher. This team had a very good heat and qualified for the final.
The U12 boys team also qualified for the final and were Oisin O’Connell, Tadhg Howe, Rory Moloney and Sam O’Leary.
Congratulations to everyone involved in such a great event. The hard work and dedication by athletes and volunteers can be seen on the track each week and at competitions. Results can be viewed HERE
